How Candle is involved in addressing the special needs of children with CP in India?
Candle primarily works in partnership with Deepti Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy, in Kerala, South India. Deepti (Light) intends to bring light to children and their families who suffer physically, emotionally and financially due to Cerebral Palsy. Deepti is the brain child of Mathew and Susan, [Ph.D student at Durham University]. The motivation for Deepti is their own experience of having a child with cerebral palsy. Susan visited India with her friends Andrea and Elizabeth and worked together to start Deepti and thus Deepti was inaugurated on August 19, 2009.
Now 11 children are visiting Deepti daily to receive free Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy.
Deepti is located at Manakala, Adoor, which is 2 hrs of drive from Tiruvanthapuram, the capital city of Kerala State.
